Interview: Jeff Dickerson Co-Owner Spire Motorsports on Daniel Suarez 600 Win!

Dickerson said Suarez and his crew chief Ryan Sparks were and are on a winning trajectory!

Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson had a connection with Kyle Busch who recently passed away due to a sudden illness. The Spire motorsports shop is located in what used to be Kyle Busch Motorsports and Dickerson was a friend of Kyles.

On Sunday night Dickerson’s Spire team with Daniel Suarez at the wheel won the rain-called Coca-Cola 600. It was a tribute to Busch who helped Suarez in his career.

“It’s also kind of strange, right?,” asked Dickerson after the race. “ When the rain first started falling, you just find yourself thinking, you’re just like, man, you know you’re going to get some text from him like you lucky asshole. Not only is Kyle in the fabric of our place going all the way back to the MMI days, but certainly we’re in that shop, a lot of his former employees came along. I hope it’s rewarding for them too. It’s been a tough couple days there. It’s still kind of hard to believe. I was for sure he was going to walk out of that place. I’m still just -- I can’t believe it. It means a lot,” Dickerson said.

“ I mean this is a big moment. This is a crown jewel race. I never dreamed we’d -- I’d love to tell you we thought we had them right where we wanted them when we were running 30-something or whatever and he was chasing a vibration, it felt like, the first half of this race. It feels good. It feels good to win. It feels good to -- I’m happy for Daniel. He’s had a chip on his shoulder, but man, he’s really fit in with us. He’s been so good just being like the glue,” Dickerson said.
